BoTM – Crimson Mace

I found the original while browsing through Pinterest and was really fascinated with the background.  The technique is called “diapering” and it is essentially adding background.  Most of the time the diapering is muted so as not to add to the actual artwork, as in the case of blazons (heraldry), but with scrolls diapering can be bold or muted.

Paint:  Winsor & Newton Gouache (Lamp Black, Yellow Ochre, Cerulean Blue, Venetian Red, Permanent White, Ultramarine;

Pen & Ink:  Winsor & Newton Black Calligraphy ink; outlines done with Pigma Micron archival ink pen

Illumination:  Holbein Artist Gouache Pearl Gold (this gold gouache flows a lot smoother)

Paper:  Pergamentata, 230grm
